SUMMARY:LCI 2022 | Misinformation\, Dishonesty and Morality with Daniel Effron
DESCRIPTION:We constantly read that we live in a “post-truth” era. \nAs lies and “fake news” flourish\, citizens appear not only to believe misinformation\, but also to condone/accept misinformation they do not believe.\nDr. Effron’s research shows three psychological factors that encourage people to condone misinformation: partisanship\, imagination\, and repetition. \nEach factor relates to a hallmark of “post-truth” society: political polarization\, leaders who push “alterative facts\,” and technology that amplifies disinformation. \nA central concern with this post-truth era is that not only people believe and spread misinformation- but when they recognize it as false\, they continue to\nspread lies\, and give it a moral pass. \nThe question is: Why We Excuse Dishonesty in a Post-Truth World? \nPROF. EFFRON’S  TALK WILL FOCUS ON:\nDr. Effron will talk about how can we get people\, the media and our society to recognize and condemn such behaviour and make interventions aimed at reducing the spread of misinformation \nDaniel Effron\nDaniel Effron earned a Ph.D. in social psychology from Stanford University\, and a B.A. in psychology from Yale University (magna cum laude). He taught at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University\, and was a fellow of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University. \nHis research examines the psychological processes that allow people to act unethically without feeling unethical. He also researches how people form judgments of others’ wrongdoing. His work has appeared in such scholarly publications as Journal of Personality and Social Psychology\, Psychological Science\, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes\, Journal of Applied Psychology\, and Journal of Consumer Research. \nHe is frequently featured and quoted in popular media outlets as the New York Times\, the Washington Post\, the Los Angeles Times\, The Atlantic\, and BBC News. \nTHIS LCI EVENT IS PRESENTED WITHIN THE CYPRUS FORUM \n29 September 2022\n18:30 – 19:30 Live Talk\n19:30 – 20:30 Networking Cocktail (Municipal Gardens behind the theater) \n29 September 2022\n18:30 – 19:30 Live Talk\n19:30 – 20:30 Networking Cocktail (Municipal Gardens behind the theater)

SUMMARY:LCI 2021-22 | Adapt or Perish with Ioannis Ioannou
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, companies and executives are faced with ever-increasing demands\, expectations and unprecedented pressure to operate more sustainably. Organisations must effectively address the social\, environmental\, governance (ESG)\, and economic impacts of their actions and operations. \nIn other words\, the emerging sustainability challenge is about being able to balance out the often-conflicting demands and expectations of multiple\, complex and diverse stakeholders while generating financial and social value. \nThat’s why Sustainability is becoming a major business disruption: because most companies are lacking the skills\, knowledge\, and expertise required to navigate this disruption successfully. As a result\, the Sustainability challenge presents companies with a fundamental dilemma: to adapt or perish. \nProfessor Ioannou will present and discuss empirical evidence for the emergence of the “sustainable organization”; a new type of modern business organization that genuinely and effectively integrates environmental and social issues into its business model\, strategy\, organizational structure\, and conduct. \nFinally\, Ioannou will tell us why sustainable organisations outperform traditional ones. \nPROF. IOANNOU’S TALK WILL FOCUS ON:\nChallenges and opportunities that arise when companies commit to integrating ESG issues into their core business modelHow to establish and maintain a competitive advantage. What are the strategic trade-offs that arise when companies truly commit to sustainabilityWhat is the role of innovation and how can a sustainable business model effectively address or overcome trade-offs while building thriving businessesIoannis Ioannou\nA Leading Authority on Sustainability\, Leadership and Corporate Responsibility\nAdvisor & International Keynote Speaker\nAssociate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School \nA graduate of magna cum laude from Yale University\, majoring in Economics and Mathematics\, and holder of a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University and the Harvard Business School. He is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School. \nThrough his award-winning academic work\, advisory roles\, teaching\, and engagement with executives\, he focuses on understanding whether\, how\, and the extent to which companies and capital markets can lead on the path toward a sustainable future. Ioannis is the Co-Chair of the sustainability advisory panel of Merck KGaA\, a member of the ESG advisory board of the DWS Group\, a member of the World Economic Forum experts network specializing in sustainable development\, and a member of the advisory board of AXS Investments Institute for sustainable investing. \nHe has also been recognized by several rankings as one of the top social media influencers on issues of corporate sustainability. SUMMARY:LCI 2021-22 | Mental Health at Work with Linda Papadopoulos
DESCRIPTION:The event is sponsored by Grant ThorntonThe pandemic\, the lockdowns\, the halt of economic and social activity\, the great resignation and the comeback at work have done nothing less than exacerbate our levels of stress\, anxiety and uncertainty. Remote work during covid led to poor communication practices and often a low sense of connection to or support from one’s colleagues or manager. \nThe mental health disruption had a great reflection both on the interpersonal as well as the organisational level. Employers were suddenly faced with employees’ burnout\, disconnection and low engagement – leading to a lost sense of purpose. \nHow many employers were able to address the organisational dimension of mental health?  \nEmployers had to shift from seeing mental health as an individual challenge to a collective priority. Given all the workplace factors at play\, companies can no longer compartmentalise mental health as an individual’s responsibility to address alone through self-care\, mental health days\, or employee benefits. New practices require a culture change\, more sustainable ways of working that embrace flexibility and a deeper connection between managers and employees. \nIs your organisation equipped to handle the emerging disruption amid the health crisis – war – inflation\, and coming back to the office?  \nAre your people resilient and adaptable enough to withstand unpredictable threats and change?  \nRESILIENCE & ADAPTABILITY will be the focus of Linda’s talk. \nLINDA’S TALK WILL FOCUS ON:\nHow novelty\, threat and uncertainty affect individuals and groupsThe psychology that underpins adaptabilityHow to cope with changeHow purpose feeds into our identity and work satisfactionMental hacks to deal with stress/anxiety/well-beingSystemic changes to promote resilience and well-beingHow to thrive rather than just survive changeLinda Papadopoulos\nOne of the Most Recognizable and Well-Respected Psychologists in the UK\nAuthor\, Keynote Speaker\, Columnist\, Host\nand Broadcaster on human behaviour \nLinda is a Chartered Counselling and Health Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society with over 20 years of experience in counselling individuals\, couples and families. Linda worked both in the NHS and her private practice in the UK. Commonly known and recognized as Dr Linda – due to her numerous TV shows – including BBC’s Good Morning Britain\, the Discovery Channel\, National Geographic and TLC\, as well as presenting features for ITV’s This Morning and The One Show. She is a regular commentator on Sky News\, CNN\, CBS\, CNBC\, and BBC International. Linda worked with a wide array of brands\, corporate and private clients\, from pharmaceutical giants to Women’s Empowerment Forums. She talks and counsels on human behaviors\, body image\, self-esteem\, mental health and the impact of social media on mental and cognitive health. \n 11 May 2022\n18:00 – 19:00 Networking Cocktail\n19:00 – 20:00 LCI Talk \n 11 May 2022\n18:00 – 19:00 Networking Cocktail\n19:00 – 20:00 LCI Talk
